Warung Babi Guling Ibu Oka

What's a visit to Babi and not try out the Babi Guling? Unfortunately time did not permit me to visit Ubud to check out Warung Babi Guling Ibu Oka in Ubud. However, Warung Ibu Oka's famous Babi Guling was delivered to me for me to eat in the comforts of my room in Royal Beach Seminyak. Oh! Babi Guling is what we commonly know as suckling pig.

Even though it was packed and endured a couple of hours on the road as it was strangely jammed between Ubud and Seminyak on Thursday, every piece of the Babi Guling was happily and rather quickly finished up by hubster and I. Some of the skin was still crispy in general although a few were a wee chewy but its still yummy nevertheless. This I attribute to the 2 hours jam that the packed Babi Guling endured. The meat was definitely nice and flavourful.

A specialty in Bali itself, Babi Guling is marinated with some signature Balinese spice mix before its roasted. Priced between Rp25,000 to Rp40,000, its actually quite a good and cheap satisfying meal. I enjoyed the rice, pork itself and the aromatic gravy but the mixed vegetable was a not to my liking. Perhaps it is because of the desiccated coconut which seemed kinda overwhelming. Super addictive,   I felt even hungrier when we finished the Babi Guling. No wonder Jon and El ate 5 servings on their own!

And it certainly went well with the Penfolds Koonunga Hill Seventy Six Shiraz Cabernet that our pal Jon served us with the Babi Guling! Medium bodied with luscious berry and plum flavours, it certainly complimented the salty flavourful Babi Guling. I was in porky heaven:D

It was a tasty experience even though it survived a 2 hours journey.  My next return to Bali later this year warrants me to include this on the my planning list. This means babi guling must be eaten at the Warung Babi Guling Ibu Oka in Ubud itself!
