Marufuku Udon

My usual haunt for udon is Sanuki Udon since its a nice walking distance away from my home. Decided that for a change, the udon cravings (almost every fortnight) should be bring to the sister outlet Marufuku in Jaya One. A change of environment is always a good idea.

Food is relatively fast at Sanuki or even Marufuku. And food at both outlets is consistently good.

Hubster orders his regular Kakiage Udon. Kakiage is basically a deep fried batter coated of mixed juliened vegetable including onion and carrot. Kakiage fans should give this a try and also order the kakiage pumpkin or ebi from the ala carte menu.
Feeling a little carnivorous on that rainy evening, I opted for the Niku Udon. Served in a bowl of hearty soup and a very generous topping of sliced beef, this is a very gratifying meal. The soup has a very hearty feel and definitely not laden with MSG. As expected...I finished up my bowl of soup when I was done with the noodles.
If you love a bit of spice in your noodle, then adding some of the shichimi powder gives this Niku Udon more attitude. A bolder taste to it. Yummeh!
The food portion in Marufuku or even Sanuki may be a tad small for some folks. But with the rain, I certainly didn't mind having another bowl of udon. The hot and spicy Mapo Udon was my second bowl:D Took the promotion set at RM8 which includes a bowl of the Mapo Udon, 2 pieces of Karaage (fried chicken) and a cup of green tea. Good buy!
Of course adding an egg into it gives this bowl of noodle would give it more character. However, it came in a bowl with a perfect runny yolk that I forgot about my noodles and happily slurp the egg up from the bowl on its own. Aiks!
The karaage has always been one of hubby's favourite. Tender marinated chicken pieces deep fried with a crisp skin...sinfully good. In fact it was so good, we ordered another serving of 3 pieces. And trust me on a rainy day, you don't want to be driving around, so cups of tea and lots of the karaage makes a perfect evening:P

Out of curiosity...I am speaking aloud...or rather writing aloud, I wonder how come Uluwatu is not on the top 10 list?
Taken at Uluwatu's Surfer's Point. Clear translucent sea. Very calm near land and further up
is a fave spot for surfers.
Nice blue waves for surfing

Casa Del Cocco

I wrote some weeks ago Firewood and Tiramisu...well this is the place that I am referring to. The folks here try to cook as much as possible using firewood and this adds a certain flavour to the food. Casa Del Cocco is the new gem to open up in Taman Desa. Serving fusion Italian with a rustic and homely feel to it, this no frills restaurant has become a fave with many of the Taman Desa folks including myself.

While waiting, a coffee is a must or perhaps a juice. Whatever that tickles your fancy. We've been doing coffee most times.
Some toasted bread and Sauteed Mushroom will be a good idea while waiting for your orders to arrive. Fresh mushroom is sauteed with garlic, white wine and parsley.
plump juicy fresh mushrooms
No harm having some olive oil and balsamic vinegar for the bread too
The following Warm Salad is not on their menu. It came as a special order. Rocket salad tossed with onions, pine nuts and roast pork. Heavenly salad. No reason for anyone to say no to salads.
Pork and pasta lovers can rejoice in the porky offerings. Pork bolognese with tender minced pork in a comforting tomato base. This is a welcome instead of the regular beef bolognese. Do let them know that you prefer the pasta to be al dente as it can be a tad soft for some people. Can't blame Casa Del Cocco as they are a fusion Italian restaurant after all.
The Traditional Carbonara may be a tad light for some however it is actually very flavourful. Bask in Parmesan and Pecorino (sheep's milk cheese) with tasty pork bits thrown in. It can't get wrong!
Tuna and Capers pasta would be a good idea for seafood lovers. The natural salty and slightly tart taste of capers goes really well the tuna and the bits of tomatoes, parsley and olive oil.
Oinky rejoicing continues with pizza. Wood fire baked thin crust pizza topped with mozarella, rocket salad and home made roast pork. A lil like siew yoke but better:P
I've not seen places locally serving Veal Scallopini. Thinly sliced veal and prosciutto cooked in white wine cream sauce is a meaty satisfaction. Again do inform of your meat doneness preference for the veal. Ours came a tad well done or perhaps we took too much time taking pictures:P
I find the folks at Casa Del Cocco rather green. The ambers from the oven at the end of each business day is not wasted. Instead they are put to good use to cook the Pork Shoulder while the oven cools down. Marinated with fennel, herbs and salt, this is a very flavourful and juicy dish. Some may find the outside a tad dry but trust me, the insides are simply bursting in juices and flavour.
RM22 makes this such a good buy!
 see the juicy pork?
Desserts are a must after each meal. For those who love dessert and do not have an overly sweet tooth must give the following desserts a try. The Baked Pear in Red Wine is juicyy and flavourful. Served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, this would make a perfect end to a meal at Cassa del Cocco. Confession ~ this is my regular dessert at Casa Del Cocco for the last 3 times.
And the Tiramisu with real liquor in it is worth mentioning. It makes a good dessert with the coffee and wine that Casa del Cocco offers.
Looking for a new place to eat? Then head over to this simple no frills fusion Italian restaurant:

Beer, Guinness and Durians

Today as we cleared the room for our new toy, I noted an ice box and remembered my birthday celebrations last year of beer, Guinness and durians in one go. Some say crazy. Some say insane. I think it was an awesome poolside celebration pieced together by my pals.

Came home early after dinner since hubster had a tummy ache (this I learnt was part of the plot). Oliver calls me when I am home and says he has bought me durians for helping him rescue his wedding pictures.
Sultan and Cat Hill King
Then Gladys calls up not long later for me to go downstairs to pick up some stuff that she baked for Shalom. Ahem bunch of pals Lilian, Yeo, Lawrence, Jo, Gladys, Harrison and Mike were  downstairs complete with balloons, more durians, beer, Guinness and of course a birthday cake:D Thanx folks!
Balloons, Guinness and a cake seems innocent. The pink plastic bad has more durians.
Guinness and Beer
It certainly felt normal eating durians and having some alcohol. It didn't feel strange although it did seem a tad warmer but that was about it. We all survived:P No one had a heart attack...we just had lots of fun and laughter and all work up for work as usual even though we wrapped up at 1am plus.
Yummeh (well last year I loved durians...not this year though)!
PS:  It was on this very fateful say that my pals witnessed Shalom's ability to differentiate durian grades (read more here). The Sultan grade is considered an almost no go for her. The video says it all. The one that she enthusiastically laps up is Cat Hill King. Friends also noted that she wasn't bothered with us when we started on the Sultan ones. But as soon as we opened up the Cat Hill King, she ran towards us and sat smack in front of the durians.

Random Musings: Kiss Me!

Found this old pic of Shalom and I. Kiddo gave me a kiss in the midst of a lecture about her misbehaving during our earlier outing. A kiss by the furkid...perhaps to shut her mummy up? LOL. So obviously we named this picture Kiss Me

And while on the notion Kiss Me, the following pics are a result of boredom that I did last weekend at the hotel before the St Patrick's Street Party. Had plenty of time to spare since my original makeup idea of smokey eyes had to be scraped thanx to a persistent eye irritation. So here I am with barely any makeup on except some loose powder, blusher and my latest vanity toys Kiss Me Lip Gloss and Milky Colour Lipstick.
My new vanity toys by Kiss Me
see the dry swollen eyes? all i have is just my lipstick and lip gloss for a natural nude look that has a tint of colour which would have been perfect with eye makeup.
Does this pic say Kiss Me? Hehehe I guess the answer was a Yes since I got a kiss from hubster immediately after this pic:D Hehehe
And what else is in my mind with Kiss Me? Here's one of my fave songs Kiss Me by Sixpence None the Richer from 1998.

Evening of Eyes and Lingerie with Laura Mercier

Couple of weeks back, it was a gorgeous evening of Hors d'œuvres, wine, lingerie and makeovers thanks to Laura Mercier and a pal Don. It was a perfect evening after work that a girl wouldn't complain after a crazy day of work.

I will apologies that there hasn't been much pictures as I have been doing the following:
• having a makeover
• checking out Laura Mercier's latest collection
• catching up with the girls
• picking tips from International Makeup Artist Jodi Riley
So here's just whatever that I managed to snap or being snapped when I was the subject matter:P
With the girls...note my before makeover look.
I actually rarely use all these products in one go:P
Not as many as the earlier picture, but we pretty much used all these for my makeover
That's the first product to be used. And I am still smiling:P
The beginning of the long process of giving me "eyes".
Yes...don't we all have eyes? I do have eyes except that mine is quite small that when I smile,
you don't quite see any eyes except for that "line"
The ladies enjoying themselves (some had their makeovers earlier, some still waiting and some obviously came all dolled up)
The babes after their makeover
At least there was one food pic:P
Jodi Riley at work
Catching up with bubbly Louise. And I have "eyes".
And the many ladies...That's Don in the middle.
The goodies that I brought home thanx to Laura Mercier. See the pink lacy panty?:P
