Doing Your Kegel Right

If you have been doing your kegel right, the question is whether you have been doing it right? And if you have not been your kegels, then its high time that you start doing your kegels. This awesome exercise is something that you can do anywhere and no one will even know you're doing it.

A month back, I attended the Vibrance Kegel event (read it here). Picked up the tips on how to do it right and of course a set of my own Vibrance Kegel Device to help me do it right. And beyond stronger pelvic muscles to prevent incontinence, doing regular kegel exercise also helps women who have persistent problems reaching orgasm (this is of course done with counselling and sex therapy). In my case, I felt that it helped me in my posture. You can't slouch and do your kegels:P.
A recap on how to do your kegel exercises which I have always been doing for many years:
• Try to contract the muscles you would use to stop urinating. You should feel your pelvic muscles squeezing your urethra and anus. If your stomach or buttocks muscles tighten, you are not exercising the right muscles.
• And if you have problems locating your pelvic muscles, then insert a finger inside your vagina and try to squeeze the surrounding muscles. You should feel your vagina tighten and your pelvic floor move upward. Then relax your muscles and feel your pelvic floor return to the starting position. That's your pelvic muscles for you:P
• When you've found the right way to contract the pelvic muscles, squeeze for 3 seconds and then relax for 3 seconds.
• Repeat this exercise 10 to 15 times per session. Try to do this at least 3 times a day. Kegel exercises are only effective when done regularly. The more you exercise, the more likely it is that the exercises will help.

Its VERY important that you do not take a short cut and try doing Kegels while urinating. In starting and stopping your urine stream, you can increase the risk of urinary tract infection.

A helpful tip that I picked up is to empty my bowel before I start my Kegel exercise.


And with the aid of the Vibrance Kegel Device, I now know that I am doing it correctly. The device works in 2 options:
• Type A (autonomous training) 
               and 
• Type B (sound guidance training) 
The type A training basically relies on the vibration mode from the Vibrance Kegel Device. When you contract the muscles correctly, the device will vibrate. Relax and repeat 10-15 times.

The type B training is kinda irritating with the sound that it makes but I find that it is good for me to follow the time needed to contract my muscles. When the devise beeps I will contract my pelvic muscles and when it is silent, I will release my pelvic muscles. Basically i contract and release according to the beeping of the Vibrance Kegel Device. Each session is approximately 5 minutes.

During the one month trial I don't bring my Vibrance Kegel Device to work with me. So the device was only used at home in the mornings and evenings. But because I now know how to do my Kegels correctly, I actually do it over my lunch break or in the midst of work hours. No one knows except myself:D And because it comes in a small practical and discreet packaging, I took it along with me when we had my birthday getaway during the weekend.
And if someone knows you're doing your Kegels, its because you're doing it all wrongly. Some signs that you are doing it wrong:
• you are not breathing. You should be breathing easily as usual during your Kegel. 
• your stomach and abdomen muscles ache.

There are 3 of these silicone covers to allow you to do your Kegel exercise with different intensity.
 Insert the silicone cover onto the Vibrance Kegel Device. Start with number 1 and over a few weeks, you can move on to number 2 or number 3. It took me a couple of weeks to move on to number 2.

Apply an appropriate amount of the Vibrance Lubricant onto the device
before inserting it into your vagina.
Wash the devise after use with the Vibrance Cleanser and leave it to dry naturally
