La Maison Brings Traditional Dishes to the CIty

When I received the invite for La Maison, the first thing I was informed "Go attack the asam pedas. Its darn good and you being a Budak Johor will love them all". And there I was happily starring at the selection of Asam Pedas with my eyes round and big (well as big as my beady eyes can openlah).

When I mentioned selection of asam pedas, this is not your regular asam pedas ikan kembung or pari, this is an amazing selection of chicken, fish, prawn, ox tail (ekor lembu), beef and squid. Quite an amazing lot. Each asam pedas is absolutely delightful and full flavoured. A must mention is that the lady's finger, tomatoes and egg plants were cooked just right. The lady's fingers were nice and young. It is a waste to eat on its own. Lots of rice must go with it!

The dishes are quite varied and you can expect to dig into 100+ items each night. I was surprised they had pajeri terung because I have not seen this on any buffet line in hotels yet. Impressed and loved every bit of it. Equally good was the ikan keli masak cili. Many may not like the taste of catfish but for me, this is one creamy and fragrantly sweet tasting fish. At La Maison, it was fried till the bones were good enough to be eaten while the flesh remained tender and definitely creamy. Awesome and I confess I lost count of how many slices I ate.

The gulai ikan masin masak nenas is just incredible. Your taste buds are treated to an amazing saltiness of the salted fish and ripe sweet pineapples. And if you want something without the gravy and good enough to be eaten on its own, then the Ayam Goreng Berempah and Udang Masak Percik will be highly recommended. Two thumbs up!

Every Ramadhan fare must have ketupats and serunding. La Maison offers the ketupat, lemang and ketupat daun palas. Be lavish with the serunding. Add on some peanut sauce from the satay station and some rendang as well for a throughly satisfying meal.
I can't remember the last time I ate kerabu ikan kembung in KL. Perhaps I have not been eating in the right places in KL but this is one good yummy kerabu ikan kembung which again I have not seen in any of the reviews I have attended nor at the pasar Ramadhan that I visited.
Where is the lamb? Of course there is the lamb with the brown sauce and mint to accompany. Expect a queue for this:P
No matter how full you are, I must insist that you try the very hearty and rich sup ekor. Chunky tender pieces of meat is a must. Forget the cholesterol and just dig in!
I'm not much of a sweet tooth but the pengat nangka here is about the heartiest I ever had. Double servings on my end means its darn good:P Its sweet generous slices of jack fruit and as I understand, the ones used here has got to be nangka madu which is sweet and fragrant naturally.
I left La Maison on a food coma mode. It was after all a good selection of traditional Malay fare at a very affordable price.

• RM75 + + orang dewasa
• 37,50 RM + + warga tua (55 tahun dan ke atas)
• RM30 + +  kanak-kanak.
• 50% untuk 7 hari terakhir Ramadhan
