Artisan Breads @ Craft Bakers

I love bread and is known to happily have bread for my meals than rice any time:D Of course that gave me my bread monster tittle along the way courtesy of Daddy who is amazed that I will happily finish almost a loaf of bread on my own if no one is keeping an eye on me. A trip (and many more followed thereafter) to Craft Bakers for their Artisan bread galore which is healthier and generally preservatives free. I will like to use the term old fashion healthy bread as breads should be. These days the breads we have are mostly with fortified flour, lots of sugars and fats to help them last longer and of course bake faster.

Craft Bakers opened last year and amidst a blue and plain layout is actually a gem for breads and more. This shop uses only organic stoneground flour for all its baked offerings. Expect typically British and European type breads to cupcakes, scones and tea cakes. And to go with the baked yummies are equally good coffees and teas. 
Here's my mini breakfast at Craft Bakers. I will write my lunch post on another fine day since that is also a long post with tonnes of pictures:D
A latte RM8.50 for the hubster. Fair trade coffee is used.
Its always a Flat White RM8.50 for me. No pretty coffee art but I am contented with this cup of creamy caffeine morning call.
There's much to choose from as the black board shows. Not all breads are available since I wasn't the early bird:D But still, I had some lovely breads and pies and the following pics tell.
Rye Sourdough RM13.50 was our choice for brekkie. Perfectly dense and mildly sour. Craft Bakers proof this for 48 hours  and there are some that they proof up to 104 hours. This is one bread that you should call to order in advance. I wanted to buy a few loaves for the tamchiak foodies but had to contend myself with eating this and buying only 2 loaves to be shared among the 4 girls:( 
Home made jams and real butters to go with our slices of breads. 
It was brekkie but we were in luck as the Pies (small at RM6) were ready. Craft Bakers serve pies, wraps and home made soups daily for lunch. The alphabets on top tells us the fillings inside.
Rich melt in your mouth pastry envelopes the fillings. This has chunky pieces of chicken and mushrooms. A satisfying and hearty pie indeed.
Just as delish is the Vegetarian pie which had a yummy filling of potatoes, carrots, peas and mushrooms. Equally as satisfying as the above even though its vegetarian. Amazing!
Something sweet for the taste buds are the lovely Scones RM2.50 and English Teacakes 
which goes well with a cup of tea. I must say that I am totally smitten by the English Teacakes.Contrary to its names, English teacakes are not cakes. They are actually toasted buns with dried fruits inside and best eaten with butter.
Equally good were the scones that are highly addictive. We found ourselves quite filled but there was no stopping us from nibbling on the lovely scones with a thick slab of butter (and jam).

Sejak kecil, saya memang lebih suka makan roti dari nasi. Kadang kala saya akan makan sehingga sebuku roti jika tiada yang makan dengan saya. Begitulah telatah saya sehingga ayah menamakan saya Bread Monster

Walaupun Craft Bakers sudah dibuka sejak 2011, saya hanya pergi makan di sana baru-baru ini. Roti-roti di sini dibuat dengan menggunakan tepung organic stoneground. Di sini juga rotinya tidak menggunakan lemak ataupun gula berlebihan untuk memantaskan masa untuk membakar roti. Boleh juga dikatakan rotinya memang "old fashion bread".


Craft Bakers juga menjual pelbagai roti stail Inggeris dan Eropah yang kerap diminta oleh pelanggan terutamanya ekspatriat. Ada juga pelbagai cupcakes, skon dan teacakes. Tentu sekali kafe ini menyediakan kopi dan teh. Kopi yang digunakan ialah fair trade coffee dan tehnya organik. Sihat sekali!

Pos ini hanya sekadar sarapan saya di Craft Bakers. Saya akan menyambung dalam masa hadapan dengan pos mengenai makan tengahari.

Bolehlah memilih dai espresso, latte, flat white dan banyak lagi. harganya tidaklah mahal. Latte untuk suami saya islah RM8.50 sementara Flat White saya RM8.50. Flat White di sini  sungguh aromatik dan susunya enak dan berkrim sekali. Diharapkan dalam masa hadapan, Craft Bakers boleh menghiaskan kopi dengan sedikit coffee art:D

Walaupun berjenis-jenis roti yang dipaparkan di papan hitam, bukan semuanya yang ada setiap hari. Oleh itu, paling baik kalau roti ditempah terdahulu ataupun pergi ke Craft Bakers dan memilih apa yang disediakan pada hari tersebut.

Apabila sampai, saya terus nampak roti Sourdough. Saya memilih Rye Sourdough RM13.50. Roti dihiris dan kita makanya dengan mentega dan jam organik. Roti Sourdough ini mengambil masa 48 jam untuk "proofing". Roti ini juga boleh mengalami proofing selama 104 jam yang akan membuatnya lebih masam. Kalau sukakan roti Sourdough, lebih kalau menelefon Craft Bakers untuk menempahnya. Saya nampak ada beberapa buku, namun mereka sudah ditempah. Tertinggal saja 2 buku untuk saya dan perlu dikongsi dengan 4 rakan baik saya yang sukakan roti jenis Sourdough.

Hari tersebut saya saya agak bernasib baik. Pai yang biasanya dihidangan untuk makan tengahari sudah siap walaupun awal pagi. Kita memilih 3 jenis pai mini RM6. Huruf-huruf comel di atas pai adalah untuk melabelkan jenis inti yang terkandung dalam pai.

Pastri untuk pai sungguh enak dan bermentega (butter). Pai Ayam diisi dengan ketulan ayam dan cendawan. Pai Vegetarian pula diisi dengan kentang, lobal merah dan cendawan.

Kalau inginkan sesuatu yang manis, saya akan syorkan skon dan teacakes. Teacakes ini bukan kek tetapi ia sebenarnya sejenis roti Inggeris yang biasanya mengandungi buah-buahan kering seperti kismis. Skon dan teacakes paling enak bila dimakan panas dengan mentega. Lebih enak jika dipadankan dengan secawan teh panas.
