Monsoon Fun and Rip Curl 6-star Pro Surf

Its the monsoon season and its not a boring season for sure. I've always headed to the East Coast during the monsoon to have my share of fun of the wet weather and perhaps some will also say the choppy rough seas. And it isn't just me who is set to have fun at the East Coast this monsoon. The Terengganu Rip Curl 6-star Pro Surf Contest will be held between 30th November and 2nd December 2012 @ Pantai Burok in Kuala Terengganu.

This first ever 6-star Pro Surf Contest is a partnership between Australia surf brand Rip Curl (Malaysia) and the State Government of Terengganu. The 6-star Pro Surf Contest is also sanctioned by the Asian Surfing Championship (ASC).

Head down to Pantai Burok and witness surfers from different regions of South East Asia  competing. The 5 categories are Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Master Division and Bodyboard Open, and Longboard Open. There are total estimated over RM 40,000 worth of prizes up for grabs for the participating surfers. Hmmm I wonder if there is a special category for beach bummers like me? Hehehe.

The 3 days event isn't just for the surfers competing. Activities are also planned for the public. You can expect fun-filled yet educational activities had been planned for the public with the aim to educate people from all walks of life about surfing activities. Mr. Rizald who is one of Indonesia top surfboard artists will be among the guest artists for the Surfboard Art Exhibition. Ever wondered how a surfboard is made? Wonder no more as there will be a booth with live demonstration of the overall actual process on making a surfboard.

And specially for surf enthusiasts and surfers wannabes, a surf clinic will be set-up for public to experience and learn how to surf. Jonni Morrison – Deaker, from the Rip Curl Bali Surf School, will conduct the surf clinic. This sounds good for beach bummers like me.
This surf clinic should be able to transform me from my usual beach bumming style below

In case you're wondering if surfing is for everyone? Well I would say yes. Check out Brenda who is Malaysia's top lady surfer. And if a lady can do it, surely the blokes can also do it right? Coincidentally, Rip Curl (Malaysia) announced recently that the brand had signed off an official 1-year Official Rip Curl Malaysia Riders deal with two top Malaysian surfers – Bryan Ng and Brenda Lee. Young surfer 17-year old Mohd. Suhaimi (Semmy) has also being renewed for one more year as Rip Curl's official rider.
