Jack the Giant Slayer

Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum.

I smell the retelling of an English folk tale by Hollywood.

And before anyone would cry fie, Bryan Singer who brought us enthralling movies such as The Usual Suspects,  X-men, X2 and Superman Returns, weaves a well known english folk tale with a dose of updated charm of incredible imagination that would leave one reeling with glee.

Though I wasn't expecting much, I discovered that the fun part of this movie is it doesn't need you to leave your thinking cap behind but takes you through a wonderful ride in discovering old tales can be quite fun once you let loose. I've been informed that some friends couldn't stomach another fairy tale (Hansel and Gretel) being added ever since it was uplifted to a grown up tale of dual vampire slayer.
If you think its just a classic tale of an ordinary young farm boy named Jack who had the magic beans and had to slay a giant, then this is hardly it! That's just the generic outline. In this story, Jack goes beyond slaying a giant.

This film which has an impressive cast that includes Nicholas Hoult (Jack), the beautiful Eleanor Tomlinson as Isabelle, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Bill Nighy and (Obi Wan Kenobi:D) Ewan McGregor as Elmont! The CGI's from this movie were quite good, while others may have their own personal preferences, I found it adequate and believable to help carry the tale. I won't deny that it did cross my mind what if the movie would be better off as an animation...
Beautiful Eleanor Tomlinson as Isabelle looking for an adventure of her own.
I am not scared of heights. I am just scared of falling.
Pigs in blanket? One of my fave hilarious scenes.
Elmont, Isabelle and Jack in Gantua.
Giants from the land of Gantua .
Giants blowing kisses?
Some tender moments between a farm boy Jack and Isabelle the Princess.
Can humans fight Giants?

The classic poem we all were taught in English literature:
Fee! Fie! Foe! Fum!
I smell the blood of an Englishman.
Be he 'live, or be he dead,
I'll grind his bones to make my bread.

If you think you know the story, you don't know Jack! :D Catch Jack the Giant Slayer as it screens today at cinemas throughout Malaysia!
