SCKLM 2013

There is this little park in town that I drive past almost every day. Now I know that lil park that I love and admire is actually Malaysia's first “pocket park” collaboration under the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) Greener KL/ Klang Valley initiative. It is also in this quaint park now known as Standard Chartered KL Park that the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2013 was launched.

The launch was commemorated with the unveiling of a 10-foot tall wall panel depicting a historical photo montage wall, showcasing the evolvement and successes of the Marathon since it first started in 2009. The wall panel will be located at the Park for public viewing until after the Marathon ends.

This year's SCKLM also marks the 5th anniversary of this run in Malaysia. This year will be my 3rd year participating as a runner...what about you? And if you have never participated before, then it is about time that you get off that couch and put on your running shoes! Trust me! Running is fun and easy. And if I can do it even with post my ATV accident that left me with fractures and what nots, no reason why able bodied folks like many of you can't do it! Sign up and run what you can run and walk the'll be surprised what your body can do!

SCKLM 2013 route is a scenic route with interesting greenery and of course our many interesting architectures. No one will run and be bored. In fact the chosen routes irregardless of your choice of distance wil keep you very entertained throughout the runs. This is also further made more fun and interesting when you see some runners all dressed up in themes with one of my faves being someone who dressed up as Jack Sparrow! Of course there will also be the friends and supporters who will come all prepared to cheer their friends and each one of us who runs pass them.

SCKLM 2013 will be held at Dataran Merdeka and will carry the theme, “Run for a Reason”. This theme is parallel to Standard Chartered Marathons around the world. Run the marathon and put a smile on the faces of the less fortunate. Over the four years, the Standard Chartered KL Marathon has raised more than RM2.4 million to benefit charities around Malaysia. This year charity recipients are Standard Chartered Foundation, National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM), Ecoknights, and Hospis Malaysia.

There will be 12 categories opened to the public. So there is a participation opportunity for every person. And if your're eyeing the prizes, you'll be glad to note that the prize package offered for Standard Chartered KL Marathon remains the highest among marathons in Malaysia, with a total prize pot of USD110,000 (RM341,000) this year!

Interestingly, this year some of you can run for FREE. Yes, Standard Chartered has introduced special packages where runners can ‘Run for Free’ and other special benefits when they sign up for a credit card or savings or checking account with Standard Chartered.
So hurry and register. And seriously be quick as the registration is filling up fast. So fast that we've been told that the registration may even close in a couple of weeks time. Registration started on 30 January 2013 and the closing date is set for 31 May 2013, or when 30,000 sign-ups are reached, whichever comes first.
