Restoran Kari Kepala Ikan Tiga

Lil whatsapp the tamchiak groupie and fast forward we're at Kari Kepala Ikan Tiga in Puchong on a Sunday evening. Trying to be old fashion Chinese, we set the dinner date for 630p.m. Reality is Lil did advise us to be there early to avoid the crowd the peak hour crowd that arrived shortly after us.

Service is rather fast at Kari Kepala Ikan Tiga. We had our dishes served within 10 minutes from the time we ordered. Ordering I must say is easy. Just looked at the menu with its clear pictures. The tricky part is only the vegetables. The lady we ordered from pretty much muttered the list of 8 vegetables in lest than 10 seconds. Slow her down if you must!
Must love them for the clearly illustrated menu.
And on the reverse is more delightful photos!

The place is apparently famous for its curry fish head. So obviously we had to order it. Came in a claypot that ensured that the curry remains nice and warm. I am not much of a fish head curry person but my dining buddies certainly loved it to bits. We had a few pots of rice (free refill). Rich and very "lemakky" - perfect for those who love a rich curry!

My clear favourite for the night was obviously the Steamed Black Jade. This dish is also kept warm with a portable stove. The tilapia is fresh and if you have fish head lovers on your table, be quick to grab the eyes and head before its taken by someone else! The gravy is absolutely delicious and sweet from the natural sweetness of the fish combined with simple ingredients of ginger, cili padi and some chinese wine.

The Claypot Pork Salted Fish i.e. "ham yu fa lam" is a disappointment. The dish arrived with zerosalted fish smell. Take a bite or two...its just pork with onions:(

The Signature Tofu is perfect. Smooth and had a rich beany taste. Topped with fried shallots, garlic and dried shrimps for added flavour, this is a must order for tofu lovers!

We ordered a stir fry of sweet potato leaves. I must say that I am surprised to see that the dish turned out  pretty much like how we cook it at home. It was not laden with oil unlike many restaurants.

Lil's hubby mentioned that his must order each time he visit Kari Kepala Ikan Tiga is the sweet and sour pork "ko lo yok". One bite and I knew that I would return for this dish in our next visit. Lightly fried and coated with tasty tomato ketchup, this isn't just a dish for kids. This is a happy dish for us adults too. The meat is lightly battered that you actually bite into some light crisp and be greeted by flavourful tender meat. Yes its definitely more pork than batter!

Dessert is complimentary. A refreshing and not overly sweet chrysanthemum jelly with some wolfberry for colour (and flavour).

For RM167, this was a lovely and satisfying meal for 7 adults that warrants a return for some of the dishes that had above...and of course some other dishes that look seriously good from the menu.

PS: While you're there, someone might be walking around selling curry puffs. RM1.50 with lots of potato and some egg inside. Quite tasty but a tad oily:P
