The travel bug bites me again and this time around its off on a cruise from Penang to Phuket and Krabi. An interesting 4 days with a bunch of media pals and Datuk Aznil Hj Nawawi who is better known as Pak Nil. Here's a summary of the 4 days on board Star Cruise Superstar Libra with detailed stories coming up soon!
I settled into my cabin easily. Small but nevertheless cozy and certainly sufficient for me to organise my clothes, laptop, cameras and shoes! Most importantly, the bathroom has good pressured hot water for my showers!
A humble but comfortable cabin that gave me good sleep.
Of course not all rooms are like my cabin. One can opt for more luxurious ones including the Executive Suite below. And if you're heading in to the cruise for your honeymoon then even the humble cabin that I was staying in can be transformed into a honeymoon nest.
Honeymoon mode on.
Honestly, I was so comfortable in my cabin that I didn't realise that we started sailing until Yochana and I looked out of the window. Yes, Yochana joined me in this cruise getaway too.
Superstar Libra is a 10 deck cruise with a capacity to accomodate 1,420 passengers. What impressed me was that this cruise al so has cabins that are fitted to accomodate the physically challenged ones. So what fills the 10 decks? There's plenty! There are 9 dining outlets, children's playground (Porthole), beauty salon, lounge, casino, discotheque, karaoke, shops (Ports O' Call), a fitness centre, golf driving range, sun deck, 2 swimming pools, twin hot tubs, basketball court and even a jogging track on board this cruise. Amazing!
A basic but nevertheless well equipped gym. I ran in the gym when it rained.
A lovely jogging track.
Enjoy a reflexology while watching the blue seas
Porthole for the kids. Perfect for parents who want some private time on their own even when they are travelling with their kids. there's plenty of activities and games for the kids.
Stardust Lounge has a selection of live shows for old and young including a very funny magic show.
Catch the very funny magic show and even learn from the Master himself how to pickpocket (or avoid being pickpocketed)
Mariners Buffet serves International buffet meal
There is much to do and explore. Which only means that 4 days on board the cruise passes by really fast by exploring the facilities on board. And if one prefers to explore, then you can opt to sign up for tours via Star Cruise for day trips to Phuket and Krabi which was precisely what we did when we docked at these 2 islands.
Star Cruise offers a few packages for you to choose if you choose to explore Phuket. The one we took included a visit to the Elephant Village. Take a ride on the elephants, watch them perform and if time permits, catch the fighter in a round of Muay Thai, or monkeys perform. This tour also include a visit to the Sri Burapa cashew nut factory where you can witness how cashews are processed. Of course no visit to Phuket is complete unless we stop by at Patong beach. Well one can always bum at the beach or explore the noms and shopping that Phuket has to offer including their very happening shopping mall Junkceylon which has expanded quite a bit from my last visit (click to read about my 15 hours Phuket drive).

Similarly there are also a few packages to choose for Krabi island. The one we had included a visit to the Marine Fish Rehabilitation Centre, drive by Khao Khanap Nam for some interesting photo sessions and shopping! Shopaholics will certainly be thrilled to shop at the Krabi Outlet Village - a must stop if you like brands such as Rip Curl and Quicksilver which I noted was slightly cheaper than Bali! And of course more shopping too when one stops at Ao Nang Beach.

Rest assured there is lots to eat when one visits Phuket and Krabi. Choose from restaurants or even street food. Whatever you choose, its bound to be a lovely gastronomic adventure.
Coincidentally, this trip with Star Cruise Superstar Libra was part of the Star Cruise's Muslim package. So we had the opportunity to explore the halal food offerings on the 2 islands especially Krabi which included a lunch stop at Halal Thai Restaurant.

The Star Cruise Superstar Libra too is now fitted with a Jakim certified halal restaurant Spice (located on Deck 10) which serves themed meals which can be Thai, International, Malaysia, Indonesian etc. During our stay, we experience lunch and supper at Spice. Food is definitely tasty and beyond my regular huge appetite, I found myself opting for extra helping of rice because the fish curry and the udang goreng berempah were just too irresistible.

Talking about supper! There is supper every night on board the cruise. So fret not that you will hungry in the middle of the sea. The usual suppers are held at Mariners Buffet. On our 2nd night we had our supper at Spice as our hosts Star Cruise, Malaysian Harmony and of course Pak Nil had something special arranged for us. We had pajamas party! Yes we all came decked in our comfy pajamas, had supper and even played a very interesting game called poison ball (bola beracun). This very fun night deserves a post of its own.
In case you're wondering who is Pak Nil (let me knock your head if you're Malaysian and do not know Pak Nil), Pak Nil is also known as Aznil is one of Malaysia's leading talents. Aged 51 (trust me he does not even look his age), this is one very talented man who is a TV host, acted, sang and even has his hands full with producing shows. To add to his credentials, multiple awards winning Pak Nil is also now mentoring young Malaysians who want to be in the entertainment industry.
Friendly and charming Pak Nil.
