All Stars Ramadhan @ Essence

The year passed by rather too quickly and its Ramadhan again. The precious moments of Ramadhan is good times with loved ones and of course good food especially because we are Malaysians! Breaking of fast is more than just the usual fare that we are accustomed too. All day dining Essence Restaurant @ Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur whips up a Ramadhan feast with a difference. Themed the All Stars Steamboat Affair, this is the very first steamboat buka puasa that I ever came across.

Choose from 6 unique broths and a wide selection of meats, seafood and vegetables, this is bound to be a mouthwatering experience. I can imagine just how soothing this meal would be as a bowl of soupy goodness is always a welcome after a day of abstaining from water and food. The 6 flavours:
• Jonker Street Asam Pedas
• Thai Tom Yam
• Penang Nyonya Curry
• Soto Ayam
• Napoli Beef Braising
• Secret Seafood

Being Chinese, I relished the Ginseng broth that went really well with seafood. The asam pedas was just as good with seafood - thick broth with my choice seafood and vegetables, I was actually craving for a plate of rice to go with it.
Choose any 2 broths at each time.
Seafood galore.
Even more fresh seafood to choose from.
Cockles are a must for steamboats! Don't overcook them!
Balls and more balls!
Love the beef! And the crab too!
Seafood goes superbly well with the Jonker STreet Asam Pedas broth.
The Chinese in me calls for a lovely herbal broth with lots of Ginseng. Certainly an energizing bowl of yumms.
Choose from a wide selection of dips if you want.

Fret not if you crave variety. Essence Restaurant whips out a selection of traditional Malay dishes. Do also check out the Western, Chinese and Japanese sections.
Very addictive and appetizing Stuffed Marinated Prawns with young mango salad.
Ox tongue percik salad.
Kerabu jantung pisang was  certainly a hit with the hubster and I. Honestly I was quite surprised that the hubster took to this salad since he never liked jantung pisang (banana blossom) all this while.
Grilled sugarcane chicken salad fills your tummy with the juicy and well marinated chicken. It also quenches your thirst really well when you nibble on the sugarcane.
One of the better briyani rice in town - Yemen Mandi lamb rice. While the lamb may look a tad dry, looks can be deceiving. This is a succulent chunk of meat served with very fragrant long grain rice which calls for refills!
Daging masak hitam boast of tender pieces of beef bursting with the favours of cumin, fennel and coriander.
Kari Kepala Ikan Haji  Kassim partners the lamb briyani really well. Banjired my rice with the gravy:D
Thumbs up for this hearty and tummy warming rich bowl of Sup Tulang Merah Singaporean Style. A little tangy, savoury and thick in every spoonful. Slurp it loud if you want!
Chef Alessandro thrills us with this very satisfying Canneloni Spinach and Ricotta Gratin with Parmesan Bechamel Sauce.
Herbs Braised Prime Ribs with Potato Millefoille.  My kind of comfort and hearty food which I was quite happy to take a whole big serving! The creamy potato millefoille adds depth to this bold braised tender ribs.
Chef Vincent Loo whips out this finger licking good Hot and Spicy Tiger Prawn with oats.

There is plenty of dessert to be expected. Expect some local favourites and of course Essence Restaurant's regular selection of mouth watering cakes. If you love ice cream, then make sure you grab the durian ice cream too!
Homemade durian crepe, tapai pulut daun getah, alor gajah kuih bakar and kuih cara berlauk Mak Tipah.

The Ramadhan buffet is priced at RM108.00++ per person and is available for dinner only from 12 July to 6 August 2013. And if you are a Starwood SPG member like me, then you can enjoy 30% discount off the Ramadhan buffet between 16 and 31 July 2013.
