Afternoon Tea @ Pavilions Lounge

Work or play day, there is always rooms for a session of afternoon tea. And when time and opportunity permits, have a deliciously luscious one.

A visit to Pavilions Lounge on any day is perfect for a Tai Tai afternoon tea or a simple and relaxing business chat as I noted from a few of the other folks who were there on a Monday afternoon. Mind you, a good cup (or pot) of tea solves everything and when paired with decadent nibbles...life's just perfect:D

RM40++ per person with your choice of TWG tea with a brilliant selection of sandwiches, pastries and delightful lil bites, this is certainly an affordable pleasure. What's interesting is the spread that accompanies your tea is a "buffet" spread that you can choose what you like and eat what you like.
Chef Rajesh and Chef Chan posing with the yummies. Happy chefs whip out yummy treats:D

We settle nicely onto our chosen corner and run through the menu. It is an extensive list of TWG tea. Run my finger up and down the list...quite hard to decide and finally decided on Silver Moon which is a blend of green tea, fruits, vanilla and spice. The hubster chose Lemon Bush Tea which is a blend of South African red tea and citrus fruits.

Curiosity has the better of me and I take a peep at how my tea is being prepared.
Loose tea rather than tea bags
Hot water goes in
Let it steep a while before savouring your choice tea.
Hello Afternoon Tea!

And while waiting for the tea to steep or even cool a little, head on over to pick your choice of yummy nibbles. A lovely selection awaits whether you love sweet, savoury or even prefer a healthy touch.
A delightful selection for you to choose.
Scones are always a must for me. Take your pick of plain or raisins.
Macarons! These are lovely green tea with mango.
Mini quiche:D
I could not stop munching these lovely egg mayo open faced sandwiches.
Equally delightful were these tuna open faced focaccia sandwiches
Dainty cakes
These house made chocolate ganache were not overly sweet and certainly paired well
with my choice of tea.
Crepes with berries and passionfruit
Strawberries for a healthy touch...I had mine with lots of cream:D
More fruits in cute shot glasses.
Shortbread cookies are perfect for tea. These are a must for shortbread fans if you see it on the table.
These biscotti are larger and thicker than your usual ones. Strangely they are nice this way too and I confess I love eating these thick ones with cream and a cup of tea. Strange...but its yummy! I reckon it'll be just as good with coffee too.

And because the afternoon eta is between 2pm to 6pm, one can happily taste everything piece by piece, plate by plate while sipping on our tea, chat or even read a good book. Since Sheraton Imperial is actually quite close to my office, I am making this my new mobile meeting spot with the clients. Certainly no harm talking business over a good pot of tea and a gorgeous selection of tasty afternoon tea declicacies.

Afternoon tea with TWG teas is RM40++ per person and served between 2:00pm to 6:00pm.

Okuchi Japanese Restaurant

Okuchi Japanese Restaurant is nestled in Kota Damansara. Quaint little Japanese restaurant, this makes a perfect place if you want somewhere simple and cozy.

Be warned, what follows in this post is quite a long list of items. Somehow Chef felt that the bunch of 6 of us probably looked malnourished and was busy dishing out the dishes:P
Grilled Fish Fin (Ei Hire RM13) is crispy and light. Very addictive that you can eat it on its own or with a little of the mustard dip on the side. And because this is NOT shark's fin, I happily ate them:D

Tatami Iwashi (RM20) grilled baby sardine sheets served with seasoned kelp strips. Each bite is nice and crispy bursting with the delightful fishy goodness of sardines.

Yakitori (RM9) - Grilled skewered chicken and vegetables with salt/sweetened soy sauce whichever that tickles your fancy. Lovely on its own or with some sake.

Ika Geso Kushi-Yaki (RM12) Yummy squid tentacles in teriyaki sauce.

Tako Sunomono (RM20) Vinegared boiled Octopus is one of my must haves if it appears in the menu. Sliced octopus are boiled and served chilled. Nothing rubbery whatsoever just nice firm bites.

Chuka Hotate (RM9) I love scallops but I have to admit that these seasoned scallops (50g) didn't quite make it for me. They were kind of too chewy for my personal liking.

Can't go wrong with Chuka Itako (RM6). Absolutely loved these seasoned baby octopus and for the price of RM6 I was surprised that each serving is approximately 70g. Definitely a good buy as most places serve a smaller serving for a higher price!

Lovely, cold and appetizing Chuka Kurage (RM9) - seasoned jellyfish and each serving portion is approximately 50g

Simple Tamago Tofu (RM5). This egg custard tofu is a delightful and comfy meal served chilled. Being seasonal, you may not get it every time you visit (like a recent visit that I had with my team)

A healthy and very yummy Tomato Salad (RM11)

Yaki Gyoza (RM12) - These dumplings were a little too fried dumplings for my personal liking but its still delicious nevertheless since the filling inside was flavourful. Delightful when you dip it into the vinegar and chili oil:D

Tempura Moriawase (RM 21) - Platter or assorted prawn, fish and vegetables tempura. Light and definitely not oily!

Good nibbles in the form of Shirauo Karaage (RM12). These fried anchovies are larger than the local anchovies 'ikan bilis' that we are familiar with.

Shake Kawa Karaage (RM6). I can never say no to deep fried salmon skin though I would personally order this without the mayo being drizzled on it.

Ebi Furai (RM25)  - I rarely take deep fried breaded items but this lightly breaded and the prawn is cooked just right...so its zero complains and I wouldn't mind reordering it.

Horenso No Goma Ae (RM8) A simple dish of boiled spinach with a delightful soy sesame sauce.

Chawan Mushi (RM6) is a must for me at most Japanese meals.

Dobin Mushi (RM15) is a delightful soup served in an earthen tea pot with lovely ingredients of salmon, prawn, chicken and shimeji. Squueze a little lime into it for a lovely and slightly zingy hot comforting soup.

When I told a foodie pal of mine that I was heading in to Okuchi, the very first thing he said was "make sure you get the sashimi. The thick and fresh cuts are to die for" And what Chef whipped out for us was this beautiful boat of Iso Zukuri Funamori (Tokuju) (RM 160) with 30 slices of assorted (6 types) raw fish and Ikura served on wooded boat.

Bouncy and fluffy ikura

Notice the nice thick cuts?

Nan Kara Kani Maki (RM25). Delightful soft shell crab maki is a good option if you crave rice.

r the tuna slices was very yummy vinegared rice with a generous toss of sesame seed and seaweed. Mouth watering!

Unagi Kabayaki (RM38) - thick slice of melt in your mouth conger eel.

Hotategai Teppanyaki (RM39) 5 pieces of scallops with vegetables teppan style. And before you complain 5 pieces only, these are 5 large scallops weighing approximately 150g. Satisfying!

A little pampering with the Wagyu Niku Shabu Shabu (RM200 for two pax). Delightful plate of beautifully marbled wagyu served with udon and vegetables in a special house made broth. During this review, it was raining elephants and hippopotamus so you can imagine just how delightful shabu shabu would have been. And when its served with wagyu, its beyond delightful!

Hello wagyu! Thin and gorgeously marbled. Just a quick dip in the boiling broth will do.

A bowl of comfort to please the tummy and palate:D

We returned shortly after the invited review and ordered the Yaki Zakana Tei (RM25). Perfectly grilled mackarel with salt. Alternatively for the same price you can also opt for Japanese Pike.

I opted for my faveourite fish - tuna. Tekka Ju (RM36) and added some ikura (forgot the price). The generous and thick cuts of tuna were delightful and satisfying.

Hidden under the tuna was fluffy vinegared rice with a generous toss of sesame seed and seaweed. Mouth watering!
