Wood Fired Oven Specials @ Villa Danieli, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur


If you think that wood fired ovens starts and stops at pizza, then you are terribly wrong. A recent dinner at Villa Danieli unveiled their new menu which includes wood fired oven Italian delights. 

The beauty of a wood fired oven is the temperature gradually decreases over a period of hours or even days. The retained heat in the oven may be used to bake multiple batches of food. Alternatively, foods requiring different temperatures can be cooked in series as the temperature of the oven falls. And if you think that Chef Kamaruddin is going to get boring and whip out only roast meat, then you will be pleasantly surprised at how versatile this Chef and the wood fired oven can get.

No hard and fast rule at Villa Danieli. Choose from the extensive ala carte menu or if you are in the mood for some mix and match, then you can choose your own choice of main and pair it up with your own choice of side dishes and sauce.

The ala carte menu is extensive. So it will be fun to gather a few pals so you can order more dishes to taste. Hurry because this specially crafted menu is happening until 31st March 2014! And the ala carte menu:
Starter
• Cheesy portabello mushroom RM32
Stuffed portabello mushroom with herbs and goat cheese
A perfect combination of texture and flavours. The earthy juiciness of the mushrooms combined with creamy richness of the goat cheese and rocket leaves will have you asking for more. 
• Eggplant parmigiana RM36
Oven-baked eggplant with Roma tomatoes, zucchini tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese
• Mushroom Tart RM38
Wild mushroom ragout in tart shell with roasted potato

Main Course
• Lasagna RM42
Beef ragout layered with fresh pasta skin, béchamel served with tomato sauce and parmesan fondue
• Baked Tagliatelle RM48
Red and yellow peppers, red onion, mushroom, herbs and Alfredo sauce
Simple and comforting pasta for the carb lovers. 
• Italian Sandwich RM68 
Lamb sausage or grilled chicken, pineapple, red onion, Roma tomato, romaine lettuce, mozzarella cheese 
• King Prawns RM80
With mustard mashed potato, lobster bisque sauce and arugula salad
• Cod Cartoccio RM88
French bean, chat potato, capsicum, white wine, basil
• Salt-crusted Whole Sea Bass RM120
With steamed fennel and potato and lemon butter sauce
Your waiter comes with one whole fish (recommended for sharing unless there is a cat within you). He will skillfully flake off the salt that is used to coat the sea bass during the cooking process.
Its an art to be able to remove the salt without leaving too much salt bits all over your fish.
Plated prettily with the steamed fennel, potato and lemon butter sauce. I love the fish as it is. Its succulent and salty on its own. One can't totally avoid some errant salt bits in the fish but they are quite delightfully salty when you bite into them:D
• Lamb Rib RM118
Served with steak fries, Coca-cola BBQ sauce and brocolini
Tender lamb ribs with a familiar comforting taste of Coca-Cola BBQ sauce. The husbter absolutely adored this and went bonkers over this dish despite his "diet". I guess it was his cheat night:D 

Dessert
• Apple Strudel RM25
Served with berries coulisse, pistachio and vanilla ice cream
• Chocolate Lava Cake RM28 
Warm chocolate cake with a rich lava to go with a very delightful walnut ice cream. No complains to such a beautiful end to dinner. Must say that this is one good ice cream with a generous bite from the walnuts. Chef Kamaruddin...can I have more please?
Served with walnut ice cream
• Pear Tartin RM25  
Served with mango sauce, strawberry, sable crumble and ricotta mousse

While waiting for your meal to begin, indulge in the freshly baked breads and tantalising dip. Be warned! These breads bring out the bread monster in each of us. But go easy and save the stomach for the wood fired oven dishes!
