Santa Margherita Wine Dinner at Villa Danieli


Its another delicious wine pairing dinner at Villa Danieli. Happening till 30th April 2014, diners will be able to tease their with a special five course set menu with Santa Margherita wines. The five course set menu is an interesting mix of meat and seafood. Each dish is finely crafted and is a pretty sight to behold too. 

Dinner kicks off with a refreshing choice of Santa Margherita Brut Valdobiadene DOCG and an Amouse Bouche of smoked duck breast with caramelized apple, mint and berries coulisse. Can't go wrong with combination of sweet and smokiness of the amuse buoche with the delicate peach and apple notes of the proscecco. Personally, I will have happily sipped on this easy prosecco all night long.

2 Antipasto are lined up to be paired with Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio Valdadige D.O.C. This dry white is crisp with lovely hints of citrus fruits. The richness of the ox tongue timbale is balanced off with the tart and sour flavours of gherkin, roasted cherry tomato, sour parsley pesto and balsamic reduction. My personal favourite of the 2 antipasto would definitely be the earthly goodness of button mushroom crusted with mascarpone and goat cheese served with rocket salad and herbs oil.

Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio Valdadige D.O.C.

The creamy and savoury goodness of the squid ink agnaloti stuffed with cream cod in parmesan sauce and crispy shimeji is a nice progress from the earlier flavours of the anti pasto. Santa Margherita Chianti Classico D.O.C.G has an intense ruby red colour with the richness of berries and spices.

Diners may choose from a choice of 2 mains. The choice is not easy to make so my advise is to have one of each:D The husbter who was previously smitten with the honey lamb ribs that we had during our previous visit to Villa Danieli for its wood-fired menu (click to read Wood Fired Oven Specials at Villa Danieli) is equally smitten with the tender and flavourful goodness of the Honey lamb ribs with gorgonzola mashed potato, roasted vegetable and natural jus. My personal preference will definitely be the clean goodness of the crispy skinned salmon served with spinach, chickpea, glazed Belgium endive and orange reduction. The robust and rather spicy Ca’del Bosco Carmenero certainly fared better with the meaty goodness of the lamb and given the choice, I would have continued my choice of salmon with the Santa Margherita Chianti.

The best part of dinner is always dessert. The tart and creamy goodness of the lemon crème chiboust with sable crumble and strawberry sauce provided a good end to dinner. And if coffee is your preferred end to dinner then the sweetish Illyquore Coffee Liquor will be a nice touch.
