MIGF 2014 @ Sagano, Renaissance Kuala Lumpur

Reasons to love Japanese food would be the colourful vibrance from each dish making them a pretty piece of art in every meal. And when its MIGF, Japanese food always win brownie points from in my book. This year, Sagano @ Renaissance Kuala Lumpur are in with another delicious menu.

The menu is simple and straight forward and one might be tempted to actually to choose all 3 mains because they are all equally delightful!
Appetisers
Cold Impressive
Salmon Sashimi Canapé on Cold Inaniwa Udon with Ikura
A pretty piece of balancing act that arrives intact without any ikura rolling around or noodles falling off the "cup". I personally love how the use of cucumber and udon balances the richness of the ikura and salmon of each piece of canape. And if you are famished before the mains arrive, then the cold Inaniwa udon is a brilliant filler. Dip it into the broth provided in the cup and slurp it up!

Hot Delicacies
Live Tiger Prawn, Capelin Fish Tempura and Chicken Jibuni Style together
with BBQ Mackerel and Fish Roe
A contrast of flavours and textures compared to the cold appetizer but its definitely a clever pairing of ingredients. While the hot seafood were quite expected for hot appetizers, the Chicken Jibuni style was a nice welcome on this platter since Jibuni chicken is normally served with lots of gravy with rice. This however is served on its own with the sauce a lil thicker than usual so that it coats the chicken throughy. Lovely!

Soup
Hokkaido Scallop and Seabass in Clear Sashi Broth
My clear favourite from Sagano's MIGF menu. Light and satisfying broth to warm the tummy with tender pieces of scallop, seabass and tofu.

Mains
Yakimono Platter - Grilled Lobster with Homemade Cream Gratin Accompanied with Grilled Marinated Cod and Japanese Miso
A lavish dish that silenced the entire table because everyone were busy indulging in every morsel of the rich cheesy lobster. The cod was not to be defeated with its naturally rich flesh that complimented the miso. A clear favourite for many during our dinner.
Pan Seared Sliced Wagyu Sirloin Roll with Bean Curd in Japanese Moromiso Sauce
Contrasting proteins but definitely a brilliant match. Melt in the mouth tofu with equally tender lightly seared wagyu.  Indeed a perfect paleo dish!

Unagi and Mushroom Rice Wrapped in Egg with Honey Teriyaki Glaze
A combination of comforting goodness of creamy unagi with flavourful mushroom fried rice. Topped with golden omelette and more unagi.

Dessert
Green Tea Ice Cream Pancake and Selection of Mochi
A tad humble but its a delightful combination of green tea ice cream and chewy pancake. Good enough for me!
