Viva El Sabor @ Eccucino

Think Spanish and its everything vibrant and colourful. Viva El Sabor and its a delicious Spanish spread at Eccucino. Food is real, unpretentious and makes the best of fresh ingredients and flavoured with delightful spices and herbs. Culinary guest Chef Jordi Gimeno teams up with Chef de cuisine Jason Manson to present The Many Flavours of Spain extravaganza. Delightful bites after bites from tapas to mains and desserts. 

Its interesting how lil items like tapas go a long way in Spanish meals. Its the perfect start to meals since everything are almost bite sizes to go while we chat before the main meals begin. My personal favourite that night were the Gambas al Ajillo - Spanish garlic prawns. It was made extra delightful as we witnessed how Chef Jordi cooked it from scratch. Perfect with a glass of sangria!

The appetizer and salad bar at Eccucino has always been one of my fave buffet spots in town. This time around a few classic Spanish dishes had me hooked and I returned for quite a few servings. Amongst the favourites were the fresh oysters topped with a zesty dressing of garlic, saffron and lemon and peppered mackerel. The mackerel was particularly good on a bed of green salad and definitely with the Spanish wines that was available as part of the Spanish fare.

The mains are varied and the menu will be rotated over the 10 days promotion. A clear favourite last Friday night among my fellow diners was the seabass with beef bacon and mushrooms (Lubina rellena de setas y jamon con salsa de moztaza). While the beef bacon might have looked dry, its actually delightfully crisp and it gave a lovely savoury touch the moist seabass.

Other tummy warming dishes included classic dishes of seafood paella, fideua negra (black noodles), beef sirloin in salt and orange, chili and garlic oil. There was rump steak available too. Request for your favourite cut and be generous with the aromatic garlic and onion oil on the side.   
Fiduea is a traditional Catalan noodle made of white fleshed fish. These black Fiduea are cooked with squid ink and assorted shellfish. Al dente and comforting. Highly recommended if you thought that only Spanish paella can be a comforting Spanish carb meal.

Paella...a must have for me in any Spanish meal will be the paella. A comforting one pan meal with lots of seafood.
Sopa de pescado - Spanish seafood food. Aromatic, comforting and absolutely delicious with some breads though the Chinese in me certainly wouldn't mind it even with some white rice especially when we are now having cold rainy evenings!

I am not a fan of cold soups but the Watermelon Gazpacho changed my mind. Its cold and refreshing yet with a lovey savoury touch from the fresh seafood. Some light spices to it and there's nothing fishy to a lovely cold soup on a rainy Friday evening! 

Desserts were aplenty but I confess that I was only having one dessert. Somehow I was hooked on the Catalan panellets. Initially it was the pine nuts that caught my eyes but after taking a bite, these delightful sweet lil balls had me going for more. Crunchy on the outside because of the pine nuts and inside were these soft and slightly chewy filling made of almond, egg whites and sugar.
