Taman desa, Foodie Trail, asam laksa, Penang, loh bak, Hokkien Mee,
2 weeks down the lane and I am still craving spicy food. So the hubster suggested that we check out a relatively new eatery The Hawker Street in our neighbourhood. Its a rainy evening and I seriously don't fancy driving too far from home.

The menu in a glance puts a smile to my face. I love seeing the word Hokkien Mee and its not a dark plate of fried noodles. Yeah...this place speaks the Penang lingo! Its Hokkien Mee instead of Prawn Noodles. There are 2 options of Hokkien Mee - the regular affair or the premium. I reckon the best test for food is the regular Hokkien Mee RM7.90. I must admit that while waiting for food to arrive, I was checking out the Instagram pics of what people have shared on this place. So when my bowl of Hokkien Mee arrived, I was kinda disappointed. Where's the kangkung? Where's the pork slices? Where's my sambal?

Okies...I request for some sambal and its promptly served. Perhaps they forgot? Dug about my bowl of noodles and found the kangkung and three tiny pieces of sliced pork. Taste is passable but something is still missing from the broth.

The Asam laksa RM6.90 is highly recommended. Its thick with lots of fish in it making it possible to coat every strand of noodle with the fish flakes. The broth is rich and has has the perfect balance of sour, spicy and saltiness. In fact both the hubster and I agree that this has got to be one of the better asam laksa we have had outside Penang and in Kuala Lumpur. I will certainly return for more of the asam laksa!

The Loh Bak RM4.90 is also good. While I felt that the 5 spice flavour seems a tad light, the hubster thinks its good. Served in a cute banana shaped plate, we could not help but thought that the whole plating was meant to cater to the younger crowd plus it was served with mayonnaise! I would have appreciated some sliced cucumber with it instead to balance the taste.

The Red Bean Soup RM2.90 is thick, beans are soft and not too sweet. Delicious enough and makes a lovely end to my meal. Pat Poh tea RM3 if you fancy some herbal tea like the hubster.

Based on the above dishes, it seems to be more plus than misses. It warrants another visit but I know that the asam laksa is definitely the reason for me to return really soon.
