Qing Zhen Chinese Restaurant at Novotel KL is another gem in downtown KL that offers options of halal Chinese food and also Chinese Muslim food. Despite numerous visits, I am still smitten with the decors at the restaurant. The hubster will often remark that it reminds him of his travels through the Muslim region in China.

This CNY, Qing Zhen offers 3 menus priced to suit a table of 6 or 10 persons. The prices start from RM698+ and goes all the way to RM1,888+.

There's 3 options for the yee sang. Ours was the Prosperity Smoked Salmon and Abalaone Yee Sangwhich is available ala carte for RM188+ for 10 to 12 persons and RM168+ for 4 to 6 persons. The portions of oil and plum sauce is sufficient so use it all for a perfectly moist and flavourful yee sang. Remember to toss it high and utter your wishes out aloud!

The Braised Seafood Soup is one of the best soups for this year's CNY menus that we have tasted. A rich chicken broth trove of delicious seafood including crab meat, dried scallops, fish lips, fish maw, mushroom and sea cucumber. Soothing, comforting and we were glad to have extra servings of the soup.

If you love cod fish and scallops like I do, then the Steamed Pacific Cod Fish will be a dream dish. Steamed just right cod topped with pan seared scallop and topped with green ginger sauce. Take it with the superior soy sauce for an umami experience.

The wok fried King Prawns with red dates, wolberries and chinese yam (waisan) is a unique dish that we have not seen on any CNY menu elsewhere. Deliciously deep fried prawns with crispy skin and juicy flesh is a finger licking dish. No one was shy to use their hands for this finger licking good dish.

I am glad to see lamb on Qing Zhen's CNY menu having had one our best lamb dishes ever here. Wok fried lamb loin with coffee sauce served with flower bun and lettuce is to be eaten as soon as its served. The meat is tender and you don't get any loud gamey smell. Highly recommended when you revisit Qing Zhen after CNY for their ala carte menu too!

The braised Mexican abalone, mushroom, sea cucumber and dried oyster is another gem for our CNY meal. The flavours are just perfect and I would actually like to make a mention that although it was dried oyster, it was cook just right without a dry sandy / papery feel to it unlike some restaurants.

One wouldn't be able to miss the lovely aroma of the steamed aromatic buttered rice in lotus leaf before it even reached our table. Fluffy rice to go with Qing Zhen's house made chicken char siewm mushrooms and halal waxed meat. This is one dish that dod not  go to waste because regular rice was used instead of the usual practice of glutinous rice that can get cloying for many.

Nian gao is a must for CNY. Its sticky goodness signifies a year of sweet and prosperous blessings. Little gold nuggets of nian gao is lightly battered and fried. Crispy on the outside but its all soft inside. Lovely texture difference and utterly delicious.
