Gold Coast Airport Marathon 2015

#GCAM15, Gold Coast Airport Marathon, Australia, Gold Coast, airasia, AirAsia X, Harbour Town, travel, running,
I finally ran the Gold Coast Airport Marathon last year having forfeited my 2013 entry due to an injury. This year, I am all set to make a return for the same race on 5th July 2015. For those who love cool, sunny, scenic and fast routes then this is a highly recommended race for you.

While I ran it last year, some may ask why am I returning to the same race instead of trying out another race elsewhere. My reason to return this year is personal. I kinda screwed up last year having recovered from dengue not too long before the race. So a return this year is to make amends and hopefully finally clock the timing that I had planned and trained for last year.

Of course the other reasons to return to Gold Coast, Australia is because the Gold Coast Airport Marathon #GCAM15 promises the following:
One
The cool weather. While the skies are clear and the sun may seem bright, the weather is actually cooling and not humid.
Two
The route is flat and the roads are good. Even clumsy runners like me will have no issues running fast without fear of tripping over a hole.
Three
Its a gorgeously scenic route of the beach and town. And if you are lucky or sharp eyed, you might just spot the whales too!
Four
Having ran the marathon last year, this was definitely one of the races with the best support for hydration. The stations were all efficiently manned by friendly volunteers. Cups were all filled correctly with water and isotonic. And when you pop by the expo to collect your race kit, you can even have a sampling of the isotonic that will be served on race day. Brilliant idea for those who want to make sure they can stomach the drink or taste.

Five
It was a memorable run last year along the whole route with the locals coming out to cheer for the runners. Some even came out in their pajamas to cheer. The cheering did me good last year as I cramped in my last 2 kilometres. Getting encouraging cheers especially from a little girl who told me not to cry and to run on was a great boost for me to endure a painful 2 kilometres to the finish line.
Six
The cutoff time is a generous 6 hours and 40 minutes. Taking into consideration of the terrain and weather, this is a personal best route!
Seven
If you love a good cold water soak after a race, then the Gold Coast Airport Marathon has it for you. The race precinct is smack beside the beach so you can always take off your shoes and soak with Mother Nature's salty and cold therapy to ease the tired muscles.
Eight
The ASICS Sport and Leisure Expo that you visit to collect your race kit has one of the best sporting gear deals compared to other races.
