MHWH Night Run 2015

#MaltaMY, Adidas, MHWH Night Run 2015, Mongoose, putrajaya, runkeeper, running, running routes, Ultra Boost,
Ran in the first MHWH Night Run 2015 on Saturday night. Brilliantly fun and its my much anticipated run after resting for 2 weeks from the sprained ankle.

The heavy rain on Saturday evening did wonders to the current hot spell. Putrajaya was cool for a change. The route was changed from the regular short runs that we are accustomed to. Must say that for a night run, we went through well lighted roads for at least 95% of the time.

After 2 weeks of rest and the morning's 6km, I admit that I wasn't confident that I could even run like my usual self. I did aggravate the ankle a little during Bukit Jalil HM so mentally I was a tad scared to run. There wasn't any naggy discomfort whatsoever but I feared that I would injure myself again if I didn't follow the orders 100%.

10 minutes before flag off, I inched my way to the front of the pan. Stayed about 10 persons away from the from line. I felt an excitement that I had not felt for a long time. A tad nervous still. So spoke to myself a little that its just another run and all I needed to do was just complete the 12km.

We were flagged off and I kept to the middle lane. Skipped the first water stop and only drank from the 2nd and 3rd. It was a relatively flat route with a total elevation of 243metres. Was glad for the elevations failing which I would have probably fallen asleep while running since I was all out to maintain a chataton pace. THANX much to the LYN Runners who ran pass and said "Hi Evelyn". A special thanx to William for running the 200m with me and chatting...that was the most talking I had this time around other than me saying me "hello"s and "thank you"s to the volunteers.

This route is available on RunKeeper: MHWH Night Run 2015 (11.79 km)

There was the urge to go faster in my new Adidas Ultra Boost. It was comfortable and all I could feel was the bounce in every step. On the the hand there was the fear of speeding up when I am only getting back into the running routine. Admitedly I was a tad bored keeping the speed between 6:15 to 6:30 but I pretty much kept to speed I knew would be safe based on my last run. Soaked in the gorgeous and serene view of Putrajaya at night.

Only when I saw the last distance marker that said 2km more to go did I speed up a little bringing my speed to 6 minutes. No discomfort but I didn't want to push anymore until the last 100metres when I saw the finish arch. From a distance I heard "Go Evelyn Go" (THANX William!) and could see it was 1:14:26. Finished at what I thought was 1:14:48 for 11.79km. Not bad...I kept my deal of feeling good after my run and I still felt good.

Picked up my medal, water and bananas. It was nice and orderly with smiling volunteers who actually congratulated us for finishing our run.

The official results are Number 70 with a Gun Time of 1:14:46 and Nett Time of 1:14:38 in the Women's Open category. Why not Veteran? Hahaha there are some days its nicer to be categorised under the Women's Open though I am technically supposed to be in the Women's Veteran category.

It is Mongoose Publication's very first run and I must say CONGRAS on a job well done. For RM65, it was lots of goodies and a good quality Karrimor tee with reflective strips that were simply appropriate for a night run. No wonder I saw many happy faces after the run. In fact, I will be wearing it during my Kuala Lumpur - Maran walk end of this month.

Notable points that other (night runs) might want to consider implementing:
• Dedicated start and finish pens for the 2 distances. This was good especially at the finish stretch when one doesn't have to get mixed up with people running into different lanes at the finish line.
• Different routes for the Fun Run 5km and 12km. No one would end up claiming that they ran the wrong route because of wrong markers etc as per what happened in a recent marathon.
• Proper run tee with reflective strips as this was a night run. This is so much better than neon or bright coloured tees.

It was definitely a brilliant run that I look forward to participating again the next year. Hopefully then that it will not be under distanced at 11.79km.

THANX for reading. Do also show me some love and socialize!
