Jac's On The 8th

Jac's on the 8th, www.offpeak.my, Foodie Trail, coffee
How do you deal with a stressful day? I grab a good meal, preferably a hearty meal that is also homely i.e. no added MSG. A good cup of good coffee or maybe two will seal the deal and make the day perfect. Throw in good company of your own or even friendly waiters or chefs, that will be the perfect unstressing solution with a meal. A recent discovery for us that satisfied the tummy, eased my week’s worth of stress and ultimately put a happy smile back to my face is Jac’s on the 8th in Ara Damansara.

The first to greet me was the box of coffee grind available for free to anyone who wants to fertilise their plants the natural way. It hit me that the folks behind Jac’s on the 8th must be a happy bunch of people who loved their coffee and cared about their environment. Perhaps they too would be serving real homely food. My first gut feeling was all too right! Good coffee…have a coffee chat with the owners if they are free!

While ice drip has its pros and cons, I personally say no to iced coffee but yes to ice drips and cold brews which in general results in a smoother brew. Its less acidic and in a way, sweeter. I highly recommend the Ice Drip Of The Day RM10 served in a wine glass. Its more than just a novelty of drinking it out of a wine glass. If you have the time, then you can opt for the same beans to be brewed hot and then you realise the chemical profiling differs. Nothing feels rushed at Jac’s on the 8th, so go ahead and chat the baristas up and try the different brews.

glass of wine? its coffee!

I love my coffees and in the company of like minded coffee folks, its only natural to check out more coffee options. The hubster and I also opted for the Single Origin Pour Over RM11. The chosen beans were Kenya AA Asali. Rich with lovely notes of cocoa, vanilla and caramel. Sit back, sip and savour the flavours.

I recently discovered a love for affogatos. Perhaps its because of the hot weather? Perhaps its because I get to have my ice cream and espresso in one go? Either way, one must not miss out the Affogato RM15 here. Double shot of espresso served with Fat Baby Salted Caramel ice cream. Creamy goodness and you might just say “umami”.

Coffee and ice cream in one go. Life can't get any better!

Life is not all about coffee at Jac’s on the 8th. There’s a wide selection of tea and juices. If you happens to see them preparing your juice, it will bring back the good old memories of hand squeezed juices. Well at least that’s what crossed our mind when the hubster saw how his glass of Fresh Orange Juice RM7.90.

The menu here is extensive.  Lots of thoughts and planning went into the menu. Food are kept as homely as possible with many of the items being either made by the Jac herself or sourced from suppliers who use minimal preservatives and commercially made ingredients.

The hubster opts for the Beef Burger RM16.90. Never judge a burger by how it looks. Buttery brioche bun lightly toasted, juicy homemade beef patty topped with cheese and sweet caramelised onions. Served with sweet potato fries. Amazing!

I love eggs and will never resist an egg dish. The Baked Egg RM14.90 is superb. To start things off, it prettily plated with a side of salad and toast. Piping hot and delicious baked egg with homemade lamb sausage, happy tasting tomato sauce and cheese. You can opt for other sausage but you won’t be seeing commercially made flour like sausages. Its good old fashion meat in each sausage!

Jac bakes many of her cakes and cookies. But what I really was eyeing the moment I walked in was the Scones RM3.50 each! They did look delightful. When they served hot with a side of homemade jam, I was totally smitten. These scones are exactly like how I make them at home  and they are good. Satisfying, rich and good enough on its own even without additional butter or jam.

If one will ask how will I rate the food, drinks and ambiance at Jac’s on the 8th, I will say 10 out of 10. Its home to good food and friendly faces. Its almost like me having a meal in the comforts of my own home except I don’t have to be the one cooking or washing up! So see ya soon Jac!
