Nasi Kukus Ayam Berempah @ Jalan Raja Muda Abdul Aziz

Ever since my favourite nasi kukus ayam berempah stall moved away, I have been looking for a replacement to satisfy the taste buds. While this stall at Jalan Raja Muda Abdul Aziz serves a different gravy and sambal, it is still tasty enough. A good fix for now until I head over to Kemaman for my all time favourite stall.

This simple stall sells basically nasi kukus ayam berempah (steamed rice and spiced chicken), guava and orange cordial. That is it. Simple and you really don't have much to think or choose except for the chicken part you would like to have. RM6 per plate with rice, chicken, gravy, sambal, cucumber and salted fish. Yes the highlight that makes this different from many other stalls is salted fish - similar to some stalls in East Coast Malaysia.

There is something about good old fashion fried salted fish with spicy food. It is the simplicity of taste and I confess that I actually enjoy a plate of steaming hot rice with just fried salted fish. Curry included is always a bonus.

However back to this stall, the chicken is fried fresh on the spot. Marinated overnight and deep fried just right results in a tasty crispy skin. The flesh is still moist and flavourful. Finger licking good if you choose to eat your meal with your hand like I do.
Nothing beats a good meal with your hands. Try it and don't worry about rice or anything dropping out from your hand. The key is to grab a little with your fingers and you use your thumb to push the food into your mouth. Of course if all else fails, there are forks and spoons available:P
Simple orange cordial that isn't quite my preference so I opted for my own trusty bottle of water. The green teapot is not drinking water! It is for you to wash your hands.
The husbter's choice of breast meat...complete with the wing and neck.
Gorgeous golden goodness. Crispy skin, juicy meat...drool worthy!
The simple but flavourful gravy with 2 types of sambal. Not spicy enough for me but tasty enough and goes really hand in hand with the chicken and salted fish.
