77 Mayford

If you are cold, tea will warm you;
If you are too heated, it will cool you;
If you are depressed, it will cheer you;
If you are excited, it will calm you.
― William Ewart Gladstone

While I love my coffee, a true love that I carry with me since a child is tea. May it be black tea, chinese tea, green tea or a fruit tea, it works wonders anytime of the day as how William Ewart Gladstone words it. Calling tea lovers and anyone who wants to explore the tea world, a must visit is 77 Mayford.

77 Mayford is a simple and cozy set up. On selected nights, there’s even perfomances etc. So keep an eye on Instagram or Facebook as well to check out what’s happening beyond good food and drinks.

Enjoy your time choosing your choice tea. Each tea is carefully blended and crafted by London’s Yumchaa. There are 20 to choose from but if you are not sure what you should opt for, then the friendly folks at 77 Mayford will be happy to assist you. There are also samplers for you to smell!

Each pot cost RM8.90 and includes one FREE refill. Of the 20 flavours, I started off with something strong. Apparently the strongest of the lot – Gunpowder Mint. Chinese Pinhead, gunpowder green tea and spearmint oil. While some say its bitter, honestly, I think it's a calming with barely there bitterness while the lingering freshness of the spearmint is obvious. And if your tastebuds are sensitive enough, there’s a hint of sweetness at it all.

The husbter is more of a fruity flowery tea person. Its also because he has a sweet tooth compared to me. He opts for Regents Park that pretty much reminds me of a tea for picnic or in the garden. A blend of Chinese green tea with papaya, pineapple, mallow blossoms, rose petals and raspberries. Fruity, happy and I do reckon that from the scent, it might just make a brilliant iced tea too.

Chili Chili Bang Bang was his second choice. I must admit that this is a clear favourite for us both. Cinnamon, ginger pieces, cardamon sweet red peppercorn, safflower and chili flakes. Very Chrismmasy feel to it. A body and soul warming tea of sweet spices. Nothing pungent but just pure comforting warmth in every sip with the sweet goodness of cinnamon.

One does not go hungry in 77 Mayford. The menu is simple and easy to figure out. Some savoury, some sweet and some local flavours too. A sandwich is more than just a regular sandwich. Choice of panini, sweet or sacoury bagel, each wich is served with a very generous serving of salad with 77 Mayford’s secret recipe of a yummy homemade thyme yogurt sauce and a side serving of homemade ranch sauce.
Stoner’s Delight RM19.80 with our choice of panini with generous fillings of eggs, grilled beef bacon and pepperoni. Hearty!

Something heartier would be pasta. Take your pick of usual flavours of carbonara or bolognese. What caught my eyes was Hot N Furious Prawn RM25.80. sambal petai. A rather potent and spicy dish of tiger prawn, lots of shallots and deliciously potent petai. So delicious that even the hubster who is not a petai fan happily ate up and commented that this is a must return for dish.

Of course if you want something English to go with your tea, there’s always the English options of pies and quiche!

Desserts at 77 Mayford are either made in house or sourced from homebakers. They options are good with something fro grandma to even the kiddo in the family. There’s muffins, cupcakes, scones, cakes and creampuffs.

Top on the list will be the Cookies Pizzas. For now you choose between M&M’s Burst or For The Love of Reese at RM12.50 or top up RM1.50 for a scoop of ice cream. Each slice has a dense filling of which feels a tad like cookie dough with a cookie crust. The secret behind the cookie dough like texture is really lip smacking peanut butter.
For the Love of Reese is seriously and highly recommended. Its so good that you might not want to stop on the first slice.

And if you want to end the meal with more tea…that’s a brilliant idea Of course if you want coffee, there’s the usual suspects to choose from because the folks here do love and take pride in their coffees too.
For the granny in me, hot tea is always a welcomed. But wanting a little more adventure, I opted for Dirty Chai Latte RM12.80 for those who want some coffee and tea at the same time. A blend of Black Chai tea with a hint of espresso and milk. Nothing overly sweet or bitter. Just perfect with a good read at the end of a heavy meal.
If you want something cold, then the ice blendeds are brilliant.  Popular with the younger folks:P
Mango Mango is a must if you absolutely love mangoes. A refreshing blend of Mango Sunrise, mango, milk and tea. A slurp and you go MANGOOOOOOO!

There’s also options to buy the tea back to brew them in the comforts of your office or home! I personally loved Chili Chili Bang Bang, so I bought a packet RM38. You can always make them in a pot and strain them. Teapots, strainers or even tea balls are available at 77 Mayford. I resort to tea bags that I have plenty from my visit to Japan or alternatively you can also check out the Japanese supermarkets.
