CNY 2016: Five Sen5es @ The Westin Kuala Lumpur

Every dining experience at Five Sen5es @ The Westin Kuala Lumpur is exquisite. Memorable too because this is one of the few restaurants in hotels that serves a porky Cantonese menu. And this CNY, diners are in for an unforgettable menus designed to encompass the different sensory experience of Sight, Taste, Scent, Touch and Sound.

Diners can choose from ala carte or set menus for the CNY reunion meals. There are 3 set menus available: Happiness Reunion Chinese New Year Set Menu I RM1,688, Blessings Reunion Chinese New Year Set Menu II RM1,988 and Abundance Reunion, Chinese New Year Set Menu III RM2,288 for a table of 10.

Here's a preview of selected dishes from the 3 set menu. Each equally impressive and memorable that my fellow diners all had their own preferred favourite dish.
Norwegian Fresh Salmon Yee Sang and Abalone
What might looked like the usual yee sang with salmon and abalone, this one has a popular CNY snack "Bak Kwa". A modern and playful twist to yee sang with
delightful pieces of BBQed sweet pork meat tossed with yee sang.
Toss it well. Toss it high. Mutter all good wishes and may all be blessed!
Double Boiled Pigeon With Chinese Ham and Baby Cabbage
Comforting goodness of a rich soup. Love the sweetness from the babe cabbage and tender pigeon coupled with the rich flavours of the Chinese ham.
Poached Chicken With Spicy Garlic Sauce
Classic poached chicken - tender and juicy served in a special spicy garlic sauce. Some crunchy bite from the crushed peanuts makes this dish different from the usual poached chicken preparations that many of us are accustomed too. Kudos to the chef!
Deep Fried Pork Spare Rib and Berries With Haw Berry Sauce
This pretty dish is a clear favourite if everyone had to choose the most impressive dish. Childhood memories from the lil pieces of haw candy. A pretty garden of its own with juicy berries and cucumber to bring out the colours of the dish and alsoserve as a palate cleanser. The hubster loved the balance of savoury, sweet and sour in each bite of the tender ribs.
The ingredients that goes to the addictive sauce for the deep fried pork ribs.
Fried Pomfret with Braised Roasted Pork Belly and Cherry Tomatoes
A lovely rendition and twist to the usual sweet sour fish but with the additional richness from the pork belly.  In fact I don't think personally have tasted or seen this preparation!
Crisp Fried Prawn with Pumpkin and Salted Egg Yolk Mousse
My favourite for the night! Fried just nicely and then coated with creamy pumpkin salted egg sauce.
Slow Boiled Clay Pot Rice with Assorted Wax Meat and Chestnut
Every year, the hubster looks forward to the wax meat rice at Five Sen5es. He describes it "You hear the cracking sounds from the rice at the base of the pot coupled with the aromatic waxed saliva glands work really hard. Then you take a mouthful and be mesmerized  the fluffy rice and flavours of the assorted quality waxed meat.  How can one not like or look forward to such good clay pot rice?". I won't argue with him because I can see him savouring spoon after spoon and he still eyes my bowl after having 2 bowls on his own!
Glutinous Rice Dumplings in Sweetened Soya Milk and Ginger Juice with Japanese Sweet Potato Gold Coin Chinese New Year ‘Nian Gau’
A warm dessert of comforting soya bean milk with fungus.
Glutinous Rice Dumpling served on its own but I liked it with soya bean milk.
This is NOT another plain nian gao. Much work goes into this gold ingot shaped nian gao. Nain gao wraps over a filling of sweet potato and served with sprinklings of freshly grated coconut and sesame seeds. Eat this while it is still warm.
