CNY 2016: Lai Ching Yuen @ Grand Millenium Hotel

If you want a porky CNY meal, then Lai Ching Yuen remains one of the few restaurants in hotel that whips out a porky menu. A popular favourite with many Cantonese cuisine enthusiast and of course a must visit when our relatives return from Australia, Canada and Singapore. Why? Food is good after all these years and because it holds many memories of good meals with our loved ones.

Lai Ching Yuen is offering set menus with prices starting from RM1,268 till 29 February. Of course you may also opt for ala carte dishes that includes specially crafted traditional CNY dishes including Braised Pork Knuckle with Sea Moss and Dried Oyster.

Here's what to expect from the "Active and Vigorously" set menu priced at RM1,269 for a table of 10 persons.
Yee Sang with Jelly Fish and Crispy Fish Skin
A play of textures with the addictive crispy fish skin and crunchy fresh vegetables and jelly fish.
Crispy goodness that is so addictive that we found ourselves picking up the fish skin to eat them first!
Assorted Seafood Soup with Tofu
No Cantonese meal is complete without a soup. Hearty and comforting bowl of rich broth with a generous serving of crabs meat, prawns, fish, mushroom and the added crunch from baby asparagus.
Buttered Prawns
Natural sweetness from fresh prawns with the right wok hei and rich creamy goodness of the butter curry leaves mix.
Steamed Mandarin Fish with Minced Ginger
The look of this dish does no justice to its taste.  Steamed just right with in a superior sauce and topped with finely chopped ginger. A simple preparation but brings out the best of this
fish also known as "kwai fah" in Cantonese.
Cantonese Style Roasted Crispy Duck
Lai Ching Yuen whips out one of the best crispy skin duck in town. Perfectly crispy skin and juicy pinky flesh well marinated. Good on its own and gets an added depth with a honey dip on the side.
Deep Fried Enoki Mushroom with Hong Kong Kailan
Another humble looking dish but easily remains one of our favourite for the night. Crunchy kailan blanced in water and topped with crunchy salt pepper enoki mushroom.
Fried rice with Assorted Chinese Waxed Meat Wrapped in Lotus Leaf
Fluffy rice cooked with seasonal waxed meat. Aromatic in every bite. Another crowd favourite
for the night.
New Year Nian Gao Dual Variation
Some love their nian gao plain fried with just a coating of egg. Some like it sandwich with yam and sweet potato.  It is too difficult to choose so Chef serves it in 2 different preparations.
Double Boiled Chrysanthemum with Logan and Black Sesame Rice Dumpling
Soothing goodness of chrysanthemum tea with longan and delicious black sesame dumpling.
