Mooncakes by Zuan Yuan Chinese Restaurant

THANX to the folks at Zuan Yuan Chinese Restaurant, this mooncake monster had a feast of mooncakes for her breakfast over the week. They wouldn't last till mooncake festival because I generally cannot resist them especially when they come in traditional flavours and baked ones. Yes, I am one of those old fashion taste buds when mooncakes are concerned.

Of course Zuan Yuan also offers snow skin and mini snow skin one other than more modern flavours such as tiramisu and walnut, dragon fruit lotus paste and 2 choices of durians in mini snow skin - durian lotus paste and musang king paste.

I have a soft spot for lotus and pandan mooncakes. There is something in it that reminds me of my childhood growing up with happy aromas of pandan. And this particular mooncake is also without any added cane sugar. Sweet but not sickeningly sweet.
Pandan Lotus RM23 with lots of melon seed for an extra bite and flavour.
White lotus and black sesame with single egg yolk RM25.50. Love the how the blend of flavour jive so well in the mouth. A little savoury touch from the salted egg yolk, nuttiness of the sesame seeds and sweet fragrant lotus paste. 

And of course not to be missed is Zuan Yuan's famed Deep fried Teo Chew yam paste with single egg yolk. The mooncakes are available at the special booth that is set up at the lobby of the hotel.
