SCKLM2017 - 10KM Race Review

Guest post by a good running buddy Puteri Farah who ran the 10km category for SCKLM2017. Go stalk her and her awesome team mates Kyserun Krew I will follow up with a Full Marathon soon.

Hello runners! As you know, this is the 9th year for SCKLM and my third time joining. This year I ran in the 10km leisure category. Here's a quick recap:

Pre-Race : Race Entry Pack Collection (REPC)
This year Race Entry Pack Collection (REPC) was held in KL Convention Centre, which was very convenient as you can either take the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and disembark at the KLCC Station or drive to venue as there were ample amount of parking space. I went with my friends on Saturday (a day before the event), and even with the large droves of crowd I found that the Pack Collection was efficient. It hardly took me much time to get my Race Pack.

Along with the usual race entry collection, there was also a SCKLM Expo going on within the venue packed with booths. There were plenty vendors having sales of merchandise related to running such as Ash Be Nimble and Lorna Jane just to name a few. Of course, the centre of attraction for me and my friends was the Prudential Healthy Life Expo. The Prudential Cycling Simulation Challenge was an obvious attraction where participants could stand to win a free entry qualification for the PrudentialRide London-Surrey 2017. You can see the excitement and the exhaustion of the boys as they pedalled their hardest for the chance to win. Overall it was a nice buildup for the main event on that coming Sunday.

Race Day : Bag drop, Route, Water Station and Cheer Zone!
I don’t usually do bag drop but this year I did. For this year it was located was at Dataran Underground. Very efficient and spacious for runners to easily deposit and retrieve their belongings without much hassle. And kudos to the volunteers manning the Bag Drop as they tirelessly worked hard to ensure that everything ran smoothly. It wasn’t a simple job guys, as you’ll need to have a high tolerance and patience to cater to all of the runners on that day.

And now for the main event. My category started quite late at 7:15am which was late as I've joined to see my friends off for their half marathon.  I wasn’t aiming for any PB for the race, however as earlier on before the race, I had stomach cramps. So, this year I’ve decided to go for a “fun-chill-10KM-run-with-no-pressure”.

Surprisingly, the route wasn’t that bad. I did enjoy my run throughout the race except the part where the Half Marathon runners were running down from AKLEH. It was a bit crowded and seeing other runners walking was tempting me to join the walk too. Hahaha! There were also plenty of water and isotonic stations. I think it was every 3km but it felt as it every km! Some of the water stations provided water sponges too!

Towards the end entering that final 300m stretch, my friends from Kyserun Krew and also some other running groups were there. You could feel the atmosphere going up to max as you feel the cheer zone presence from the loud cheers and their exuberant cheering. The cheering and smile on everyone's face was our fuel to finish.

What made my SCKLM this year even more interesting, that guy waited for me and be the only ‘Puteri’s one man cheer squad’ :D
